Benefits of Bodywork

First and foremost, bodywork feels good. Some days, that’s enough. Yet if you’re in pain or under stress, you may want more from your massage than this. The good news is that bodywork can deliver. Massage and bodywork can assist immensely in creating an environment for healing the body.
All of us have stress in our lives - physical, emotional, mental. Our bodies do us a great service by storing those stresses so that we can continue to function in our jobs, families and relationships. Pain is the sign the body gives us when it is no longer able to release the stress it is carrying. In other words, it’s the body’s way of asking for help.
Bodywork to the rescue! In fact, it can be that dramatic. By massaging the body, your therapist will assist the muscles, tissues and organs to do what they have been unable to fully do for themselves. The results are often remarkable. Here are some of the reasons why. During massage:
  • Blood vessels dilate improving circulation. This in turn brings more oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and removes toxic congestion. This is especially helpful in overcoming fatigue from overexertion or injury.

  • Lymph fluid is pumped assisting the elimination of toxins. These toxins can irritate nerve fibers, cause toxic headaches, joint pain and inflammation.

  • Tension in the muscle fibers is relieved allowing the entire structure to adjust, often relieving pain. Deeper muscle massage or acupressure is especially effective in chronic pain situations.

  • The internal organs are stimulated improving digestion, assimilation of nutrients and elimination of waste.

  • The nervous system gets a chance to re-pattern spastic muscle responses that create kinks, knots and numbness.

  • The connective tissue is stretched and stimulated allowing greater flexibility and range of movement.

In short, the body is reminded how to relax. We stop, become aware of where we have stored our stress, allow that to release as much as possible and remind ourselves how good it feels to set down our load.

Life looks lighter, easier, we feel fresher, more present in our bodies, and more balanced. We feel good again, or at least better and on the way to good.
